Michael Chapman has represented governments and private property owners in complex, high liability eminent domain (Condemnation) cases since 1984. From 1984 to 1994, Mr. Chapman worked for the Office of the Attorney General and served as a Deputy Attorney General representing the Nevada Department of Transportation in eminent domain cases. He handled jury trials, and successfully concluded many other cases by settlement. His experience involved takings for highways and freeways in all parts of the state, and included both total and partial acquisitions of land and improvements, including acquisitions of billboards. He also worked with the relocation program advising the department of the benefits for which all persons displaced by a project are eligible.
He elected to leave his position at the Attorney General's office to further concentrate his focus on eminent domain law, establishing Chapman Law Firm in 1994. In his current practice, he represents private property owners and condemning agencies. He has handled cases involving takings for freeway projects, redevelopment projects, public utilities, and has kept abreast of all major projects occurring in all areas of the state.
